Building HVAC Solutions
  • We identified and corrected valve problems in a central boiler hot water heating system.    This could have been a typical Power Magazine article.  Each magazine included a short story about a ‘legendary marine engineer named Marmaduke Surfaceblow’  Marmaduke would ‘eyeball’ the piping system then recommend changing one valve.    Problem solved.   Light up a Ringelman #5 cigar.
  • Resolved eight years of HVAC problems for a retail store located in Chicago Loop Office Building.    We corrected problems that the initial design firm and that the second design firm had overlooked.    Although many problems may seem obvious,  we back up our problem solving ideas with design calculations.

Developed energy reduction proposals for existing buildings.    The payback on most projects is less than 3 years.
Often the design-build stage of the building runs short of money and time.   We evaluate the building and HVAC system and develop energy saving modifications.   Sometimes minor adjustments to the equipment or control system are sufficient.   Some solutions may include equipment modifications.   We develop realistic initial cost and energy savings calculations for the building manager to make good decisions.

Trouble-shooting Projects

  • Developed low cost solution for freezer room floor buckling floor problem.    Many freezer rooms are built without considering all of the design factors.   The most common solution for floor buckling problems requires tearing up the entire floor.   We solved this problem with out disturbing the floor or the room temperature.
  • Developed solutions for warehouse moisture problems.   Water pockets were forming in the insulation and ice balls occurred in the winter.    This is a rather typical problem for ware houses.     The cause of the problem and the solution are different for each ware house.
  • Resolved office conditioning problems by making small operating changes to the existing HVAC system.
